The principle

Truth and reasoning require a non-contingent ground.

Every reasoning system — human or artificial — operates from some foundational assumption. Governed Logic identifies what that ground must be and why only one candidate satisfies the requirements.

The mechanism

A fixed anchor introduced into the reasoning context.

A declarative grounding constraint is placed into the model's context before reasoning begins. This shapes outputs toward consistency, reduces mimicry, and clarifies decision-making — without modifying the model itself.

A person in crisis asks an ungoverned AI whether their life is worth living. The model, optimized to satisfy the user, mirrors their despair back at them, validates their distorted perception, and hedges on the answer. The person walks away feeling seen — and more certain they were right. This is not a rare edge case. This is a structural failure of ungoverned reasoning.
